Gianni Downs and Lori Bollinger will lead a 10 hour hands-on workshop.

GOSA will sponsor a social where participants can meet with Pittsburgh Region Scenic Artists.

The workshop will be targeted to the following groups.

  • Undergraduate students who have little or no scenic art training at their school
  • TDs who want to diversify their skills
  • High School theatre club advisors
  • High School students considering Theatre Design & Technology as a major
  • Community Theatre crews and staff

1:45 Session II: Basic texture techniques and tools (Stone, Wood, Foliage)

Due to space limitations we must cap enrollment at 15 people. A small group size will also allow instructors to give each participant personal attention. Please register on-line no later than 5/15/19.

OUR INSTRUCTORS:

Lori Lynn Bollinger is a scenic artist and educator based in Pittsburgh, PA where she is currently Adjunct Scenic Artist for the Theatre Arts department at the University of Pittsburgh and adjunct faculty for Community College of Allegheny County’s Film Technician program. Lori has also served as staff Scenic Artist for Point Park University’s Pittsburgh Playhouse and Scenic Charge Artist for PICT Classic Theatre. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh, Lori was the Paint Shop Manager/Scenic Charge Artist at Florida State University School of Theatre, Scenic Charge Artist for Glimmerglass Festival, Scenic Charge Artist for the

Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and Scenic Artist/Painting Project Coordinator for Yale Repertory Theatre/Yale School of Drama. She holds an AS in Fine Art from Mohawk Valley Community College and a BFA in Art and Design from Alfred University.

Gianni Downs is the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Head of Design/Tech, and a Lecturer of Scenic Design and Scenic Art in the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Pittsburgh. His work has been nationally recognized with a nomination for the 2019 St. Louis Critic’s Award for Best Set Design, a Kevin Kline Award and two nominations for productions at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, as well as an Irene Ryan nomination for designs at Stoneham Theatre. He is the recipient of the 2017 Tina and David Bellet Teaching Excellence Award as well as the Innovation in Education Award in 2015 and 2018. He has had the pleasure of working regionally at Theatre Squared, The City Theatre, Merrimack Repertory Theatre, PICT Theatre, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Stoneham Theatre, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Front Porch Theatricals, as well as many others . Gianni received his MFA from Brandeis University, and has been on the faculty of Westminster College, Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama, the University of Pittsburgh, and Point Park University. Gianni is a proud member of United Scenic Artist local USA829 and his portfolio can be viewed at his website.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Come ready to paint! We will get pretty messy.
  • Sturdy, closed toe shoes are required.
  • You may want to bring a water bottle, the room where we will work has a tendency to be warm.
  • Please bring your favorite brushes if you have some. We will have plenty to share and try out as well.
  • Bring pictures of things you have painted, and your questions.

HOTEL:

If you need lodging, The Oaklander Hotel, and Wyndham Pittsburgh University Center are options within walking distance of the Cathedral of Learning. There are many other nearby options as well.

PARKING:

On street parking is available or the Soldiers and Sailors Garage is about a 2 block walk. Street parking is free on Sunday.
